Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have officially signed Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for Brydon Carse, who is out due to injury for the rest of the IPL 2026 season. Madushanka, a Sri Lankan left-arm bowler, joins the team for INR 75 lakh, enhancing their pace lineup during a critical part of the tournament.
Carse was retained before the 2026 auction but suffered a right-hand injury while practicing ahead of SRH’s first match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Although head coach Daniel Vettori had hoped for a fast recovery, Carse will miss the entire season.
Madushanka has not yet played in the IPL but has significant International experience. He has represented Sri Lanka in one Test, 28 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 19 T20 Internationals, taking a total of 70 wickets in all formats. He was part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the 2024 season but was sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
SRH’s bowling lineup faced challenges this season, as captain Pat Cummins was recovering from an injury while bowlers like Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat struggled. Consequently, the team management debuted young bowlers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain in their recent match against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
This decision proved effective as both newcomers took four wickets each, leading SRH to a convincing 57-run victory. SRH posted a strong total of 216/6, with captain Ishan Kishan scoring 91 runs off 44 balls. For Rajasthan, Jofra Archer stood out with bowling figures of 2/37, while Donovan Ferreira contributed a solid 69 runs in the chase. Ultimately, RR was all out for 159 in 19 overs, with Hinge returning figures of 4/34 and Hussain taking 2/24.
Currently, SRH is positioned fourth on the points table with two wins from five matches. They aim to gain momentum in their next match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
