Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured a thrilling 10-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. After CSK chose to bowl first, SRH set a solid target of 194/9 and managed to contain CSK to 184/8, clinching the match in a tense finale.

Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen excel with the bat

SRH’s innings featured impressive performances from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen, both scoring 59 runs but in different fashions. Abhishek started aggressively, making 59 off 22 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes, which gave SRH early momentum despite losing Ishan Kishan for a duck. Travis Head added a steady 23, while Klaasen anchored the innings with his composed knock of 59 off 39 balls, helping SRH maintain their course after the powerplay.

CSK bowlers respond with key wickets

Chennai Super Kings mounted a fightback in the latter half of the innings through effective bowling. Anshul Kamboj was particularly impressive, taking three important wickets for just 22 runs in three overs. Jamie Overton also contributed with three wickets but was more expensive, and Mukesh Choudhary chipped in with two wickets. This collective effort helped CSK rein in SRH’s scoring despite their rapid start, allowing SRH to approach the 200-run mark, which proved crucial.

CSK’s chase falls short

In their pursuit, CSK began strongly but faced setbacks at critical times. Sanju Samson hit a quick six but was dismissed early, and Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to capitalize on his start. The chase’s highlight was Ayush Mhatre’s explosive 30 off 13 balls, keeping CSK in contention during the powerplay.

Matthew Short and Sarfaraz Khan contributed with 34 and 25 runs respectively, forming a vital partnership. However, frequent wickets prevented CSK from building any real momentum. Shivam Dube attempted to speed up the innings with a quick 21, while Overton and Kamboj contributed towards the end, yet the required run rate continued to rise.

Eshan Malinga leads SRH’s defense

The match changed with SRH’s bowlers, led by Eshan Malinga. The pacer delivered a crucial spell, taking three wickets for 29 runs in four overs, significantly impacting CSK’s chase. Nitish Kumar Reddy also had two wickets, while Sakib Hussain and Shivang Kumar each took one wicket. Despite some runs conceded by Praful Hinge, SRH’s bowlers showcased composure under pressure, particularly in the death overs. Ultimately, CSK fell short by 10 runs, giving Sunrisers Hyderabad a hard-fought win in this intense southern derby.
