Former India wicketkeeper Kiran More shared his first impression of watching Sachin Tendulkar bat, noting that he feels a similar excitement when Vaibhav Sooryavanshi dominates bowlers.
Sooryavanshi made headlines last season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by scoring a remarkable century against Gujarat Titans while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR). This season, he has continued to impress, accumulating 579 runs in 13 innings with an average of 44.54 and a strike rate of 236.33. At just 15 years old, he aims for a spot on the Indian T20I team for the upcoming series against Ireland.
“When I first saw Sachin Tendulkar, who came into the Indian team and faced top bowlers, I knew he was special. The same goes for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi; he is indeed special,” More told News18 Cricket Next.
“It’s great to have such a talent. He is set to bring pride to the country. He plays with a natural flair, and God’s preparation for him in this sport is clear,” he added.
Tendulkar is regarded as one of the greatest players in cricket history, holding records as the leading run-scorer in both Test matches and ODIs. Making his debut at 16 years and 205 days, he remains the youngest player to represent the Indian men’s team. Sooryavanshi has the potential to break this record.
Can RR qualify for the playoffs?
The Royals can secure the fourth playoff position if they win their final league match. They will face the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, May 24.
The Royals are coming off a solid seven-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants, successfully chasing a target of 221 runs with seven wickets in hand and five balls remaining, thanks to Sooryavanshi’s explosive 38-ball 93.
