Vijay Shankar, an all-rounder known for his seam bowling, has decided to retire from Indian domestic Cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) to explore opportunities in overseas franchise leagues. He made his International debut in 2018 in a T20I match against Sri Lanka and played a total of nine matches in this format.
Shankar also appeared in 12 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and was notably chosen over Ambati Rayudu for the ODI World Cup 2019 squad. Throughout his international career, he accumulated 324 runs and took nine wickets across both formats. Most of his domestic career was spent with Tamil Nadu, where he captained the team to victories in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
He later moved to Tripura before the 2025-26 season and concluded his domestic career with an impressive unbeaten innings of 151 against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year, earning the Player-of-the-Match award as Tripura won by four wickets.
