Vijay Shankar announced his retirement from domestic Cricket and the IPL on May 22, 2026, ending a significant career in International and domestic cricket.

The all-rounder played for India in 12 ODIs and nine T20Is and had a successful domestic career in First-Class cricket, scoring over 4,000 runs. In the IPL, he represented four franchises and scored more than 1,000 runs, consistently contributing to various teams.

One highlight of his IPL journey was the 2023 season with Gujarat Titans, where he showcased an impressive strike rate of over 130 and played a vital role in the middle order. In his retirement announcement, Shankar thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Indian cricket team for the experiences and memories throughout his career.

“A heartfelt thank you. Cricket is my life. I started playing at 10, and 25 years later, I feel blessed to have played at every level. Representing my country will always be one of my proudest moments. I have decided to retire from domestic cricket and the IPL to explore new opportunities. Thank you for allowing me to do what I love. I will be eternally grateful,” wrote Shankar on X.

“I am thankful to the BCCI and the Indian Cricket Team for the learnings and memories! Representing my country is my highest honor. Bowling the last over in India’s 500th ODI at Nagpur and taking my first wicket in the 2019 World Cup are moments I will cherish forever! A special thanks to my IPL teams GT, SRH, CSK, and DC; the experiences I gained have shaped who I am today!” he added.
