Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt has announced that the 2026 T20 World Cup in England & Wales will be her last major tournament for the national team.

At 33, Schutt debuted in 2012 and has been a vital part of Australia’s strong performance in women’s Cricket, achieving over 300 International wickets.

She reflected on recent semifinal losses as disappointing moments, noting that Australia’s recent defeats in the semifinals of the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 ODI World Cup to South Africa and India have affected her deeply.

“I’m competitive in everything I do. The last two tournaments have stung, especially after experiencing a lot of success. But then I think of those who haven’t won a World Cup; I’ve been fortunate and want to help the next generation,” Schutt shared with Australian media.

Schutt holds the record for the highest number of wickets in women’s T20 World Cup history, with 48 wickets in 29 matches at an economy rate of 5.65. She is well-known for her skill with the new ball, especially her effective in-swinger.

She mentioned the need to make a career decision due to the frequency of ICC tournaments. Even though she can still meet the physical demands, she wants to create opportunities for younger players.

“I’m not much of a planner; I prefer to go with the flow. But given the frequent World Cups, you eventually have to make a decision,” Schutt explained.

“I don’t see myself attending another ICC tournament. I feel it’s time for the next generation to step up. I don’t want to overstay my welcome and hurt the team without realizing it. I’m aware of my limits; while I can still keep up, there are capable players coming through,” she added.

Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign begins on June 13 against South Africa at Old Trafford. The squad includes 20-year-old left-arm seamer Lucy Hamilton, who performed well in her recent debuts across all formats.
