Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz suffered a concussion and was taken to the hospital after being hit on the head while batting in Bangladesh’s five-wicket win against Australia in the second ODI on June 11.
Mehidy was struck by a bouncer from Nathan Ellis while attempting a pull shot during the 34th over. Following the incident, he dropped to his knees and was assessed by team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan. A stretcher and additional medical staff were brought onto the field as a precaution. The Australian team doctor also responded quickly.
Despite receiving treatment, Mehidy chose to continue batting and vomited during his innings. He scored 22 not out, helping Bangladesh secure their first series win against Australia. After the match, he was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
“Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a concussion during the match. He continued to play after being assessed in the middle. He will be in the hospital for the next 24 hours for observation,” said Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Team officials reported that Mehidy was stable but would remain under observation. Vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led the post-match presentation in his absence.
During the match, Australia struggled initially, slipping to 0 for 3. However, Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett formed a 103-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Both scored half-centuries, taking Australia to 187 for 8 in a rain-adjusted 42-over innings. Bangladesh chased down a revised target of 192 in 41 overs, thanks to key contributions from Shanto, Soumya Sarkar, and Towhid Hridoy, reaching the target in just 35 overs.
The third and final ODI of the series is scheduled for Dhaka on Sunday, June 14.
