The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Cricket Canada from its membership immediately due to violations of its membership obligations. This decision was made during the ICC Board meetings in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Despite the suspension, Canadian national teams can still participate in ICC events. This measure aims to protect the interests of Canadian players and ensure they are not affected by governance problems within the national governing body.

Cricket Canada will still have access to ICC funding through a controlled funding system to aid their national teams, under ICC management’s supervision, specifically for approved programs.

The ICC will outline reinstatement conditions for Cricket Canada to address the identified governance and administrative issues. The ICC Normalisation Committee will monitor progress, and Cricket Canada’s reinstatement will depend on meeting these conditions to the Board’s satisfaction.

Additionally, two ICC Board members, Dr. Mohammed Moosaje from Cricket South Africa and Tavengwa Mukuhlani from Zimbabwe Cricket, are set to visit Bangladesh. They will discuss various matters, including the upcoming elections for a new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on June 7.

The ICC Board has also approved plans to organize a Global Qualifier for ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. Details on the competition structure and qualification pathway for a 16-team Global Qualifier will be presented for review in future ICC meetings.
